Okada pilot crushed to death in Lagos

A commercial motorcyclist was crushed to death on Tuesday evening by a Toyota Highlander jeep along the Lagos-Badagry highway.

The unit commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Badagry, Suleiman Taiwo, confirmed the incident to reporters on Wednesday.

He said the biker was trying to turn around when he was run over by the black SUV which was coming from Lagos.

Taiwo added that the accident happened at 5:30 p.m. near the Smark mall along the Badagry highway.

He said the driver of the SUV tried to escape but was apprehended by motorcyclists at the Low-Cost bus stop in Badagry.

The FRSC commander said: “The other Okada riders who apprehended the driver tried to harass him because he wanted to escape after running over their colleague.

“They wanted to burn the vehicle and beat the driver, but one of my staff who spoke fluent Hausa persuaded them and they handed him over to the police.

“They said they did not want Pilot Okada’s remains to be taken to Badagry General Hospital as his burial would be delayed.

“As a result, his body was returned to the Hausa community of Ibereko and he was buried according to Muslim rites.”

Taiwo called on motorists using the expressway to be careful on the road.
