Dirt Bike Rider Seriously Injured at Asarco in Manchester NJ
Warnings and cautionary requests have been issued for years to avoid Manchester Township private property in the Heritage Minerals/Asarco area due to the above reason as well as conditions which make swimming or crossing dangerous .
The latest in a string of crashes over the years within Asarco’s boundaries happened on Monday afternoon.
Manchester Police said they responded at around 2.48pm to a single dirt bike crash involving a 22-year-old man and an orange 2019 KTM 250 dirt bike in a wooded area of a dirt road.
During their preliminary investigation, police learned Deivid Barbosa-Pereira of Newark was driving through Asarco when he lost control and hit a tree which caused him to be ejected from his mountain bike as he rolled through the wooded area.
He was found a few miles away.
Police said Barbosa-Pereira – who was wearing a motorcycle helmet at the time – suffered serious leg injuries and needed to be medically evacuated to Jersey Shore University Hospital for treatment.
The investigation into the only dirt bike accident at Asarco on Monday afternoon is continuing, but Manchester Police have said they believe unsafe use of the dirt bike on private property was the contributing factor to the accident.
Manchester Police also add that they were joined at the scene by paramedics from the Manchester Township Emergency Medical Services Division, firefighters from the Manchester Township Emergency Medical Services Division, police firefighters from Whiting Voluntary Fire Service, Ridgeway Voluntary Fire Service, Manchester Voluntary Fire Service. Department of Paramedics at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
