ALR MI Chapter Post 216 Newsletters

November 1, 2005

The summer of 2005 if nothing else, was great for motorcycling. The 216 chapter along with 7 other Michigan chapters successfully hosted the National gathering of the American Legion Riders. The event (2005 Great Lakes Romp) was attended by approximately 400 riders over the 4th of July weekend in Fowlerville. Also in attendance were 2 representatives from the American Legion National Headquarters and the Michigan Department Commander. Our group was in charge of Rides and Runs for the weekend and we had a great response from all that participated. This was the first time that the event made a profit, which is nice since we planned for 12 months.

Several members of our group also attended the 2nd annual Veterans Bike Rally in Sault Ste. Marie hosted by American Legion Post #3. This event pulled over 500 bikes and will no doubt grow each year. We will be there again next year, it’s a great time. We also participated in run to the Moving Wall while it was in Michigan. There were over 1200 bikes at this run which was hosted by the ALR in Mt. Clemens.

The most attended ride was our end of season cider mill run. We rode the back roads through the countryside to several Cider Mills. This year I believe we had 25 bikes, mostly two-up (that’s 50 people J).

For the Good of the Legion

The American Legion Riders have donated chair cadies and candle holders for the hall and sponsored holes for the past two Fred Kowle golf tournaments. We have also committed to a “detailed” cleaning of the kitchen on a quarterly basis, as well as manning the kitchen on a few Hamburger Nights. We are in the planning stages of a major fund raiser party in late January, watch for details.
